The Strength & Success VLOG #83
So I was reading a 📰 article over the weekend and it had a story about Idris Elba, famous actor tipped to be James Bond.
It was talking about his career and how now he’s in a place where in his late forties.
He’s got a 🍸 bar in London.
He’s got a production company, he’s doing some music.
He’s doing many many 🎬 and some big-ticket films too.
However when you unpick his history and look at how he’s got to where he is today. It proves very inspiring.
He was auditioning for bit parts, walk-ons for single lines and for small parts right through until basically he was 30 years old.
He took a chance.
He took he made the 🏃 and made a move to us to America and did a lot of work over there, but it really didn’t get any momentum until he was 29.
So he put a good 10 years in of trying to be an actor and make a good living through being an actor, until he got anything out of it.
And then he basically got lucky in his own words by he auditioned for The Wire and he got the part.
And then The Wire was an incredible success.
And he played a big part in The Wire right through 5️⃣ seasons of that which basically made him and gave him the security sure, but it also elevated his profile immeasurably.
To what he is today and he’s in his momentum has grown from there.
So what’s the learning here?
First and foremost, it doesn’t happen overnight. He’s put 10 years in there minimum to become an overnight success.
we’ve got to be prepared to take the darkness and the challenge to build the momentum, but then we’ve got to capitalise on that momentum
So when you get something you got to really grow it and push forward and make things happen for yourself 📈.
You see this with a lot of actors.
I think it’s Samuel L Jackson. It might be that he didn’t really get his first big film or big until he was in his 50s now, he’s done 20 years of that and he’s a legend.
You have to work hard to get a foothold out there.
So life is you got plenty of time and if you still grafting and 30 and even 40 even 50,
it’s absolutely not too late.
In fact, it may well be that you’re extremely close to making your big break from your big opportunity.
So keep pushing 👊.
