The Strength & Success VLOG #86
I’d like to talk about education.
It’s something that’s very close to my heart and it’s something that is controversial and ill tell you why.
It’s all laid out for us, we go to school and we do our a-levels maybe we’ll go to university or do an apprenticeship.
Then we go to a company and there’s an entitlement here.
I speak to coaches or aspiring coaches who have done a degree maybe they’ve done a masters and there’s always there’s almost this feeling of I’m entitled to a job. I’m worth this.
In my opinion you’re not worth anything unless you’ve constantly consistently demonstrated your value and it is nothing to do with a piece of paper.
There are many many coaches and business people out there that have not got any qualifications, but have demonstrated value and are hard working.
The best athletes, the biggest businesses whatever it may be we’ve gotta get out of this mentality that if I go to uni I get this I get my professional qualification and then I get a job.
All you’re doing is setting yourself up for a real harsh challenge and harsh reality of you’re no different to thousands of other people.
What is your point of difference?
What can you do to demonstrate your point of difference and ultimately why not adopt the Maverick model?
Which is what I call back filling your education to move forward.
You understand the some spaces to fill your go on course as you pick those courses wisely and you back fill your education to make sure that you’re still on top of your game.
So in my field, in my game I’ve done the strength and conditioning model.
I’ve been there and and I still do it.
I still love it.
My back filling is in business now, so I’m doing director qualifications and doing CPD on finances and accounting and learning marketing and sales and so on and so forth and learning as a student all over again,it’s awesome. I haven’t gone on to do an MBA I could have done, but the MBA will get me nothing.
I’d rather apply my skills to something that’s specific for me and back fill that with specific courses.
It would be very easy for me to think right I’ll go and get the MBA and then surely my business will be worth millions because I’m entitled to it because I’ve done the MBA.
I’ve paid the 20 grand out for the course, whatever it may be and it just does not happen like that.
We’ve got to think about creating our own path being different following a different model and getting to the top through the value that we bring and not the qualifications that we have.
They give you nothing other than some kind of framework to follow the only people who are going to work for somebody else and sit there and crack on all day every day.
