VLOG #103 – THE best drill for building team spirit
I was in Turkey for the European championships and I was working with a number of visually impaired athletes, we lost the first match and we lost it badly.
And everybody’s spirits were down and then Jackie Sheldon came up with a brain wave and it’s a drill and it’s something that I’ve utilised many times since and had amazing effects with it and you won’t believe how simple this is.
But also how powerful this drill is.
We had a meeting room and all the athletes, all the support staff and coaches were there.
So maybe there was 20 of us in this room and all Jackie said was she said I want you to pair up and tell that person in front of you something that you like admire respect about them and then they’re going to tell you something and then you change you go to the next person in the next person so over the course of the next 30/40 minutes.
I myself and the team went from feeling a little bit down to massively buoyed, confident, empowered and appreciated and valued because 19 other people had told me something unique about me that they like admire or respect.
I think it’s a really powerful process for somebody just to tell you randomly.
I really like that about you.
I really admire you for that.
For somebody to acknowledge those things just out the blue like that without any
real expectation has an element and a sense of power to it.
Next time your troops are down or your spirits are low go through that drill and let me know what you think of it!
