VLOG 139 – Are you susceptible to overwhelm?
I had a conversation with a good friend last week and we were talking about this quality of overwhelm, this state of being overwhelmed and I know how that feels.
I’ve been there myself on more than one occasion and I do believe that certain people are more susceptible to overwhelm than other people.
If you’re one of those people that takes on a lot of projects likes to say yes, doesn’t like disappointing on letting people down, you quite possibly are similar to myself in that you’re potentially susceptible to overwhelm.
You’re trying to do good things.
You’re trying to further yourself.
You’re trying to help other people and that’s admirable.
But what happens is you actually do none of those things because you are trying to do all of them and doing them really poorly.
So if you’re that person that says yes all the time, check yourself on this and think I need to potentially say no a little bit more and I need to have that really key quality called focus which means I’m going to nail one project then move on to the next and just be aware of that mental health wise as well.
If you’re one of those people you are certainly somebody that could benefit from a coach, from a critical friend, from a mentor to just shine the light on that.
I suffered with it myself and what you have got to be careful of with overwhelm is it can then it become a downward spiral and before you know it you’re doing nothing well, you’re fed up that you’re doing nothing well, you feel tired, you feel burnt out and the next stage to that can be challenging your own mental health in a way that we just don’t want to go in to, be careful guys!
