VLOG 142 – “Hard is soft and soft is hard”
I was on a course with the Institute of Directors a couple of weeks ago and a phrase came up that I really liked which was “hard is soft and soft is hard” this point came up in a discussion about creating a strategy and passing that strategy down, really it’s people skills.
It’s being able to communicate and being that hard cold person is actually the soft way.
The hard way to use that phrase is to be the soft approachable vulnerable person that can show emotion, that can do those things, speaking from a perspective of mental health (those of you that have watched my videos will know that I’ve had my own struggles with mental health in the past).
That is absolutely everything that is challenging and ultimately wrong with your communication, in that if you’re taking the hard line, you’re not communicating, you’re not sharing. It’s really the soft way to do it.
We’ve got to evolve beyond that.
We’ve got to get to the soft way being the hard, being the way to go and it is harder to do that.
